Chicago Night Warehouse Supervisor

Job Opening:
Leadership and people skills are essential.

Shift:Monday thru Thursday, 10:30 p.m. – until 8:00 a.m. or later if job not complete
Sunday is from 8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. or later if job is not complete

Off:Friday and Saturday.

Friday and Sunday night there will be only one supervisor.
Monday thru Thursday night there will be two supervisors.

Job Summary:
Responsible to supervise the second shift night warehouse selection operations from beginning to end in a union environment. Manage the scheduling and job assignment of selectors. Assure compliance to all safety rules, policies and procedures. Coordinate that all reports and selection documents are ready and that product is selected accurately, while maintaining the highest quality and sanitation standards. Exercise sound judgment in decision making during the course of business.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
•Supervise the fast paced night warehouse operation to ensure quality, accurate and timely selection of products and take proactive measures to protect against warehouse losses
•Supervise timelines to ensure trucks are released for On Time Delivery
•Supervise all night warehouse employees (scheduling, training, attendance, discipline, etc.)
•Supervise the safety and sanitation level throughout the warehouse
•Oversee the loading dock to ensure accurate and proper loading of tractor trailers throughout shift
•Administer and adhere to all governmental and Company regulations / policies (USDA, FDA, OSHA, FMLA, etc)
•Maintain the power equipment in proper running order. Coordinating repairs with maintenance department
•Perform thorough accident investigations as needed, including employee accidents/incidents, equipment accidents/incidents and product damage, per SFD’s accident investigation procedures. Suggest corrective actions as needed and implement after necessary approvals
•Conduct training of new hires, re-training, power equipment safety, non-harassment and other programs as needed.
•Post schedules per employee agreement.
•Promote open two-way communication with all department
•Support the hiring of employees according to SFD guidelines and the following SFD policies on Substance Abuse, Non-Harassment and OSHA Standards.
•Coach and reprimand employees per the Union contract and SFD policies after review with upper management.
•Create and/or distribute warehouse and SFD reports as needed.
•Ensure overall cleanliness of SFD equipment, inside & out.
•Ensure SFD policies and procedures are in place, communicated and enforced
•Attendance tracking
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
•Working knowledge warehouses operations (e.g. selection, let down, power equipment, expediting, cubing, etc)
•Competent math skills
•Strong organizational skills and able to effectively handle multiple tasks at one time
•Able to work effectively under stress
•Identify waste and offer solid long-term solutions
•Effective interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with a diverse work group
•Strong verbal and written skills
•Effectively use Food Distribute software to research operational issues
•Able to effectively facilitate two way communication
•Ability to create a sense of urgency within the team and for yourself
•Employee is expected to adhere to attendance guidelines
•Flexibility to work any shift as needed

Education and or Experience:
•High school degree or equivalent required, college degree preferred
•2 + years warehouse supervisory experience required
•2 + years warehouse experience required
•Proficient computer skills preferred (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)) preferred
•Prior pallet jack, Hilo certification experience preferred
•Knowledge of barcode scanners is not required, but a plus
•Bilingual skills are a plus

Essential Physical Functions
•Constantly moves about to coordinate work.
•Exposure to varying refrigerated and freezer temperature and seasonal climate conditions due to exposure
•Key board data entry
