TITLE:Warehouse SupervisorDEPARTMENT:WarehouseREPORTS TO:Shipping/Receiving SuperintendentPRIMARY FUNCTIONThe purpose of this position is to coordinate all shipping or receiving functions and monitor them throughout the shift. Ensure that all retailers receive the correct product they order by directing and guiding the shift activities.NATURE AND SCOPEThis position reports to the Shipping Superintendent or Receiving Superintendent and is responsible for timely and accurate shipping of orders to retailers and/or receiving of product. The incumbent must communicate with other Supervisors, Warehouse Employees, Drivers and Billing Clerks to maintain smooth operations in the shipping and receiving functions. The incumbent must be able to relate to and communicate with Warehouse Supervisors and workers so as to keep morale high and attain the set objectives of the warehouse operations. Communication must also be maintained with the Transportation Department and retailers to ensure that shipments are handled in a proper and timely manner.All daily shipping activities such as utilization of workers, the initial steps of discipline, training preferred work assignments/methods, O.T. decisions, risk control/safety and operation efficiencies are handled by this position. SUPERVALU’s Business Conduct and Ethics Guidelines, union contracts, and other established policies guide the incumbent in his/her decision-making authority.The incumbent must have good decision-making abilities, knowledge of the complete warehouse operations, and be skilled in leadership, interpersonal communication and managing people. He/she must have previous experience in first-line supervision. Previous experience as a distribution worker would also be helpful. This is a daytime shift beginning at 8:00 am. Shift will include working all weekends. Typical shift could be working Sun, Mon, Thur, Fri, Sat.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES1.Monitors order selection activities ensuring an orderly flow of product to the loading docks.2.Monitors the receiving of product needed for that day’s activities (i.e. backhauls)3.Monitors loading activities ensuring proper sequencing, weight distribution and coordination of mixed loads.4.Coordinates shift activities with the Transportation Department personnel to ensure the availability and placement of trailers and the transfer of loaded trailers to permit efficient distribution of product.5.Coordinates the work activities of all shift personnel including but not limited to the training, performance monitoring, safety and first steps of corrective discipline.6.Maintains a safe and hazard-free work environment effectively minimizing losses by providing safety training, conducting and documenting department inspections, conducting “tool box” meetings, safety observations, supporting initiatives directed at promoting a safe workplace and investigation all accidents/incidents in a prompt, thorough and complete manner.SUMMARYThe incumbent is to plan, coordinate and control the warehouse shipping and receiving operations in such a manner as to satisfy the retailer needs and to attain all divisional goals such as; profitability, risk control, safety, performance etc. as set by SUPERVALU, Inc.
