Production Shift Worker "Granulation Operator - ' L' Furnace

Granulation Facility @ Blast Furnace Molten Slag Runners

Reports to: Production Shift Supervisor

Purpose: To operate granulation system for producing raw slag to the quality specified by controlling pumps, conveyors, auxiliaries and related granulation equipment.

Functional Objectives:

1.Performs equipment inspection, general housekeeping and miscellaneous tasks associated with slag production.
2.Communicates with Mittal employees as necessary, to coordinate slag production.
3.Meets plant safety requirements and follows safe work practices.
4.Performs start up, normal operation, and shut down of the granulation system.
5.Starts, stops, and regulates the flow of water to keep the slag flowing.
6.Performs switchover of slag runners, and set up of slag runners as required.
7.Sends slag to waste slag pit when necessary.
8.Monitors the amount of slag in the slag pits.
9.Removes gate, rods it out, and resets the gate.
10.Assists in maintenance of hot and cold runners as required up to an including the removal of iron buildup, cover placement, creation of sand dams, removal of sand dams, and cleaning area of excess slag.

Normal Working Hours: Rotating Shifts

Work Environment:
•Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
•Frequent exposure to work at height, fumes or airborne particles, work in confined spaces, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, in proximity of low and high voltage electrical equipment, and vibration.
•Noise level is moderate and occasionally loud.
•Vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
•Frequent exposure to high heat conditions
•Personal Protective Equipment required includes, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes with metatarsal protection, hearing protection, dust respirators, and other depending on specific activities to be performed.
•Employee will be required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell.
•Frequently requires lifting up to 50 pounds, use of a pry bar and occasional use of a jackhammer.
•This position is represented by the United Steel Workers as part of a collective bargaining agreement
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Required / Associate Degree Preferred

Formal Training: 1 month

Preferred Experience: 1 to 3 years experience in industrial environment
