Communication Specialist - Installation Oversight
Duties/Responsibilities: Radio and Telecommunications system development, including system design, client interviews, survey of existing sites, observations of practices and operations, site and system inspections and tests, contractor coordination, cost estimation, and functional specifications. Written reports, surveys, letters, telephone coordination, meeting and survey records. Spreadsheet analysis operation of computerized project manager files, operation of engineering software. Occasional assistance at a presentation or seminar, sometimes involving speaking before a group. Education (Minimum Required): AAS in communications related field, or the equivalent military academic training. Non-technical 4-year degree may be considered if experience merits. Experience (Minimum Required): Minimum 3 to 10 years experience in design of radio, telecommunications, telephone or data transmission equipment or systems, or in management of public safety radio or telecommunications facility. Experience must include involvement in the procurement and implementation of major communications systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch systems, Wide area two-way Radio systems, 911 Dispatch Centers, etc. Other Required: Must be computer literate – able to operate a PC using spreadsheets, commercial engineering software, and word processing. Must possess communication skills – ability to write effectively and interface with clients on the telephone or in person. Must be willing to spend 50% to 70% of time in the field with occasional weekends for distant projects. Must have a basic understanding of business economics. Additional Education, Experience and/or Other Qualifications Desired: Communications licenses (Amateur Radio, FCC licenses, NABER Certification, etc.); hands-on equipment experience as a telecommunications dispatcher.
