Job Summary:The Scientific Liaison (SL) is responsible for cultivating current and future thought leaders in academic and clinical medicine within the local area assigned to. He or she carries out field activities associated with bringing new Astellas Pharma US, Inc. (APUS) products to market, and supporting product development plans. The SL provides research results and disease management concepts in medical treatment to thought leaders and primary investigators. The SL implements education, research and therapeutic area support projects at thought leader institutions. All responsibilities are related to the therapeutic area the SL is assigned to.eoe(M/F/D/V)Job Responsibilities: Identifies, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with future and current thought leaders within local scope of responsibility. Attends key scientific local, regional and national scientific meetings. Provides support at the APUS Medical Information booth and completes summaries for sessions/abstracts assigned. Attends APUS scientific symposia. Communicates field intelligence obtained from thought leaders to APUS that has an impact at the local, regional and/or national level. Provides scientific support of product development plans within therapeutic area through discussions regarding Astellas products and compounds, disease state management concepts and identification of areas of mutual interest with thought leaders and APUS. Interacts with Medical Director as appropriate. Communicates innovative and appropriate applications for APUS products that provide patient benefit to DDPM through manager. Refers in-licensing opportunities to New Business Development through Manager. Attends APUS sponsored Advisory Boards. Provides Managed Care and formulary support through providing published data and presentation of scientific data regarding APUS products. Attends Scientific Affairs National Meetings and actively participates in discussions. Builds corporate identity and image through communication regarding APUS pipeline compounds, products, mission and vision. Presents APUS product research data and disease management concepts to thought leaders, their staff and study personnel. Develops new visiting faculty through participation at Speakers Training Programs and one on one. Supports CME Symposia and Visiting Faculty Programs in compliance with AACME Standards that have a local impact. Assists in the development of training modules. Mentors Sr. Scientific Affairs Associate in field activities. Implements education projects and programs within local area of responsibility. Participates in the development and implementation of education projects under the direction of a Project Leader. Identifies needed education program on a local level. Provides support for Investigator Initiated Trials that are in concert with product development plans. Tracks project progress and assure publication and presentation plans are implemented. Participates in Scientific Affairs Project Team as requested. Brings approvable study concepts forward for Project Team review. Participates in the implementation of Phase IV Multi-center studies sponsored by APUS with thought leader sites. Attends Investigator Meetings. Provides support to R&D studies through strategic recommendation of qualified Investigators and research sites. Provides scientific product education, problem solving and facilitates communication between Thought Leader study sites and APUS. Submits pre-clinical study concepts to the DDPM Project Team that support product development plans. Tracks progress of pre-clinical trials and assures presentation and publication.
REQUIREMENTS
Job Requirements: Bachelor degree in related field required; advanced scientific degree, allied healthcare degree or business degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience in pharmaceutical industry or related fields required. 1-2 years Liaison experience preferred. Experience with teaching hospitals preferred. Demonstrated high level of scientific expertise/competency in therapeutic area of responsibility preferred. Competency in role of the Liaison preferred. Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific information is imperative. Proven oral and written communication skills. Ability to travel overnight 40% - 60% of the time required. Prior experience in managing a frequent travel schedule is desirable. Demonstrated computer skills is essential; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes is highly desirable.
