Chemist
Purpose: Job Title: Chemist Job Description: Daily responsibilities, testing in-process samples from production primarily, also Final product analysis, some data verification & calibration experience with LIMS, general software (excel, word), GLP(General Lab Practices), attention to detail, knowledge of basic statistics, would be beneficial. (some college, but not necessary, if experienced)
Instruments:
1) spectrophotometers
2) Surface Tensiometers
3) AA (Atomic Absorption) physical testing; pHs, viscosity, conductivity, etc... Will be first shift for 4 months from 8-4:30pm. Then will go to 7pm-7am that will rotate.
Position is in the analytical and quality assurance laboratory for testing and quality control of raw materials, plant control samples and finished product with focus on precision and accuracy. Support and maintain quality assurance systems. Position requires shift work as necessary.
NATURE OF POSITION
- Support Production and PTD by conducting analytical testing as well as other related analytical development work.
- Required to conduct assignments, records data, calculations and observations in laboratory notebooks and occasionally writes reports and analytical methods.
- Works under the general direction of a Supervisor or Chemist.
- A very wide variety of simple to highly complex laboratory tasks are conducted with a consistently high degree of independence.
- Acquires a high degree of dependability, versatility, judgement and manipulative skill and may be called upon to offer suggestions on equipment or methods to be used in new or complex analyses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS EXPECTED
- Independently assembles laboratory equipment as required for assigned laboratory tasks, and operates analytical laboratory equipment.
- Depended upon to recognize unusual variations, frequently offering sound recommendations to supervision as to cause, effect, or corrective action.
- As requested, instructs lower level technicians in routine procedures in areas of the incumbent's particular specialty.
- Offer suggestions on new or improved equipment and methods, and designs or assist in the design of special apparatus or equipment.
- Provide direct, frontline responsibility for adherence to Quality Assurance Systems in terms of ATS systems, calibration protocols, SOP's, SQC/SPC tracking, Action Limit monitoring and all other prescribed quality initiatives.
EVALUATION FACTORS
- Must have experience and be familiar with computer interfaced instrumentation such as high performance liquid chromatography, gas
chromatography, ion chromatography UV/VIS/IR spectrophotometer and atomic absorption spectroscopy, ICP, wet chemical and physical analysis.
- Requires good working knowledge in laboratory information management and quality management systems/statistical quality control (SQC).
- Must have strong PC computer skills with knowledge of Windows, work processing and database programs (Word/Excel/Access/ PowerPoint, Lotus 123/Freelance, Dataease/ Foxpro).
- Ability to interact with other departments to accomplish fully integrated operations with focus on team work through self managing teams.
Minimum:
High School Degree with Chemistry and proven experience in chemical testing and analytical instrumentation in a quality control laboratory (AA in Chemistry preferred).
