Japan Equities Sales - Associate, San Francisco

As an associate in Sales, you may help maintain relationships with institutional investors and match our services and products to their needs. You work with trading and research teams to provide comprehensive client coverage, including fulfilling client requests for market updates, executing client orders and providing institutional clients with information about specific securities. You may also provide marketing ideas and help initiate transactions. You may be placed in a commodity, credit, equity, fixed income, or foreign exchange product group.



A successful Associate will:Start to implement selling as a continuum -- independently and effectively complete a transaction from start to finish (make the call; send the research; sell and close the deal; book the trade). Cover own accounts, broadening revenue base through greater account and transaction ownership, idea generation and new business introduction. Identify ways to add value to the desk beyond what's asked. Start to build foundation of trust with clients by demonstrating an understanding of their needs, clearly articulating desk ideas, and being responsive. Establish independent relationships with clients grounded in a solid understanding of client-specific nuances; can effectively "decode" what clients are saying. Start to establish own selling and client management style. Sought by clients as a value-added resource. Develop strong working relationships with peers across front office and support areas, and understands how they need to work together. Influence internal partners to pursue and close identified sales opportunities. Understand how traders can provide liquidity for clients; start to establish meaningful dialogue that leads to mutually beneficial client impact. Know how to filter information from clients and traders.Thoroughly understand drivers of relevant markets and can explain and anticipate market movements. Become an expert on products sold on the desk. Understand the product risks and where/when the deal can go wrong. Understand needs of clients in own space and broad strengths/weaknesses of competitors in that space. Start to grasp unique needs of individual clients and what they are trying to achieve.

REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for entrepreneurial candidates with strong analytical, quantitative and communication skills. You should be someone who thrives on the challenge of competitive pressures. You should also be able to remain focused on client needs and work well with colleagues in a fast-paced environment.MBA Required Or 2 ½ to 3 years of financial industry work experience Able to speak and understand Japanese
