GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:Working under limited and general supervision executes protocols involving a variety of routine and some specialized experiments. Through literature searches and conferences with principal investigator, assists in determining the most suitable methodologies to be used. Develops some modifications of existing techniques. Analyzes data using advanced morphometric and statistical techniques. Coordinates activities and quality assurance across several laboratories with collaborators. Composes sections of research reports and manuscripts.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Using a variety of routine and some non-routine histology procedures, performs specimen preparation for analysis by routine morphology, and specialized quantitative histology and morphometrics,
2. Analyzes specimens using a variety of specialized quantitative techniques such as computerized morphometry.
3. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using statistical techniques, and identifies a logical sequence of subsequent experiments based on the data obtained.
4. Assists in the design, modification and troubleshooting of experimental protocols and analytical techniques.
5. Performs independent literature searches, and writes sections of research reports and manuscripts.
6. Coordinates activities and quality assurance across several laboratories with collaborators.
7. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals and solutions.
8. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with department procedures.
9. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
10. Maintains established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
11. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:BA or BS in a biological/physical science required.
1 - 2 years related experience and/or MS in a relevant field.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Broad knowledge of scientific principles, biology and laboratory techniques.
Good computer and organizational skills; detail oriented.
Demonstrated ability to independently generate and analyze data using statistics and logically present it.
Good oral and written communication skills.
On own initiative, ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot problems as necessary.
Ability to prioritize work.
Ability to work under limited supervision.
Sound interpersonal skills.
