Under general supervision of Laboratory Manager and Principal Investigator(s) and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures and specific instructions will perform routine and non routine laboratory experiments at a professional level. Develops modifications of existing techniques, as appropriate.Will perform a variety of routine and non routine mammalian cell culture techniques using sterile technique in our Cell Culture Facility. Will perform preps on vascular tissue isolating endothelial and smooth muscle cells. Will be responsible for distributing cells to the investigators and collaborators worldwide. In collaboration with PI/Researcher may establish new and modify existing research techniques. Will assist in the orientation and training of staff and collaborators in culture procedures and techniques. Will prepare solutions, culture media, and additives. Will monitor the cells for viability and contamination. Will maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. Will maintain basic records of methodologies and findings. Will identify unusual findings and report them to the supervisor. Will participate in compliance with regulatory agencies and local hospital safety surveys and procedures including radiation surveys and chemical inventories. Will comply with all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science.
Cell culture experience preferred.Must have a sound understanding of laboratory policies, procedures and sterile technique. Must be organized and have good manual dexterity. Must be willing to work with hazardous chemicals in a controlled environment.May be exposed to radioactive and other hazardous chemicals, under controlled conditions.
