GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENTUnder general supervision of Principal Investigator, executes protocols involving a variety of routine and non-routine experiments. In conference with principal investigator, may assist in determining the most suitable methodologies to be used. As necessary, may develop some modifications of existing techniques. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data.PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESExecutes protocols for research experiments and determines whether results warrant repeating or modification. Performs experiments and analyses investigating preservation of human platelet preparations for cold storage.Performs a variety of routine and non-routine experiments and procedures including the following:Prepares platelet-rich plasma (human and murine) and gel-filtered platelets for experiments.Performs FACS analysis of human and mouse platelet preparations.Studies aggregation of activated platelets using aggregometer.Transcribes and maintains data and graphical presentation of data.Bleeds mice, isolates platelets and transfuses them into mice. Some organ extraction from mice involved as well.Performs tissue culture for cultivation of macrophages.Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONSB.S. degree in a biological/physical science required.At least 1 to 2 years related experience.Ability and willingness to do some experimentation on mice.
