GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT
Under general supervision of Principal Investigator will be able to perform standard techniques of contemporary molecular biology and to determine whether results warrant repeating or modification.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, performs routine laboratory procedures following established protocols. These tests may include: preparation of solutions and media, growth of bacterial cultures, growth of yeast cultures, yeast tetrad dissections, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis, PCR, Western blots, protein binding microarray experiments, microarray data analysis, gene expression profiling, chromatin immunoprecipitations, quantitative real-time PCR.Maintains complete daily records of methodologies and test results in a laboratory notebook.Identifies unusual findings and reports such findings to supervisor.Maintains equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner.Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed, including providing technical support for postdoctoral associates and graduate students working in the laboratory under the Principal Investigator's supervision.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science. May consider a bachelor's degree in another area of concentration, if individual has had significant coursework in the sciences, has the required prior laboratory work experience, and demonstrates strong potential.Familiarity with basic molecular biology laboratory instruments, equipment and scientific procedures, typically acquired through academic training and prior on-the-job laboratory experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must have a sound understanding of laboratory policies and practical experience in laboratory techniques and procedures.
Must be able to work in a Windows PC environment.
Must have good manual dexterity.
Must have a flexible work schedule.
Must demonstrate careful attention to detail.
Must be able to maintain a neat and orderly working environment.
Fluent command of spoken and written English is absolutely required.Applicants must have at least 3 months prior on-the-job laboratory experience in molecular biology (i.e., not just a laboratory course).WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal molecular biology research laboratory with exposure to radioactive and other biohazardous materials under controlled conditions.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
None.The highly experienced individual who demonstrates good laboratory practices may have the opportunity for future supervisory roles.
