Systems Administrator

This position reports to the ITES IT Operations Manager. General responsibilities include ensuring the availability of many disparate computing environments through preventive and remedial maintenance and operation of computer and networking operating systems, systems software, and hardware.

Specific responsibilities for the Systems Administrator include:
Ideal candidate will have experience working with scientific equipment in a research and development environment
Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software and hardware
System administration on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP and Linux variants.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system problems.
Implementation of upgrades and patches
Rapid diagnosis and response to user problems
Administration of accounts and privileges
Implementation of disaster recovery processes
Implementation of security controls consistent with government cyber security requirements
Real-time support of critical scientific operations
Contribute to the design and implementation of system upgrades and new IT systems as required
Implement LAN and WAN networking solutions

REQUIREMENTS
Required Skills for Systems Administrator:
- BS or equivalent and 3+ years experience performing systems administration of servers and networks for a large user base
- High degree of expertise across numerous systems, applications and processes including Windows 98, 2000, NT, and XP; Unix, and Linux variants
- Demonstrated trouble-shooting and problem resolution experience
- Must have quality written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with networking equipment including routers, switches, etc.
- Knowledge of high volume rapid access storage devices and solutions

Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of Government Cyber Security requirements and standards
- Experience providing IT solutions in a scientific laboratory environment
- Knowledge of Laboratory informatics technologies
