Position Requirements

Preparation and managing human health and/or ecological risk assessments for federal CERCLA, RCRA, and TSCA programs and for state programs. Specific responsibilities include:
Problem Formulation, Hazard Assessment, Exposure Assessment, and, Risk Characterization.
Interaction with site investigators to ensure data acquisition meets risk assessment needs, including devising data acquisition programs to provide site-specific data needed to support risk assessment approach.
Review of site characterization data pertaining to soils, groundwater, sediment, and surface water and screening of analytical chemistry data against regulatory guidelines (either independently or in conjunction with other risk assessment staff);
Preparation of toxicological profiles (either independently or in conjunction with other risk assessment staff);
Risk modeling and statistical treatment of the data, using spreadsheets and proprietary risk assessment software;
Interpretation of site-specific data and risk characterization results; and,
Assisting remediation project managers in developing strategies for risk-based remediation, estimating residual risks following remediation, calculating site-specific risk-based cleanup levels, and justifying modification of Agency default exposure factors (human and/or ecological) based on site-specific conditions.
Preparation of draft risk assessment reports, and final risk assessment reports under USEPA RAGS.
Client interface and ability to work effectively under Principal in Charge. Work with senior professionals in evaluation of sites and development of risk-based remedial solutions at contaminated sites.


Position Responsibilities

BS preferably in toxicology; biological or chemical sciences an asset as well; and, a minimum of 10 years related experience. Higher degreed professionals (Master of Science or Ph.D.) are preferred with a minimum of 8 years related experience. Private sector experience and work prepared for projects under USEPA review are essential.
