We currently have an opening in our Vaccine Research Department for a Research Scientist I Bio, at our Pearl River, NY facility (located on the Rockland County, NY/Bergen County, NJ border).
As Research Scientist I Bio, you will assume a major role in the maintenance of the Department's DNA Sequencing Facility, coordinating day-to-day workload, training new users, and troubleshooting instruments. Also, you are expected to design and execute methods to analyze RNA/DNA genomes of primary clinical isolates (both viral or bacterial) in support of Viral and Bacterial Vaccines Programs. Knowledge of molecular biology software programs and hands on experience using ABI 3730 and 3130 DNA sequencers required. Additionally, experience in molecular biology with an emphasis on PCR, qPCR, DNA cloning and RNA/DNA analysis is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed, as the position requires regular communications within the Department of 130 members, participating in the seminar series as well as in the preparation of technical reports. Maintenance of Sequencing Facility requires company-wide data archiving and analysis software use; computer-savvy is a plus for the candidate.
MS +4 years, BS/BA +6 years in biochemistry or a related field. 4-6 years experience in DNA sequencing, molecular biology in an academic institute or pharmaceutical industry. Working knowledge of molecular biology and/or virology/bacteriology, with emphasis on genetics and molecular biology is expected from a successful incumbent. 2-4 years experience with DNA sequencing using fluorescent dye terminator sequencing technology and knowledge of ABI 3730& ABI 3130 instruments is needed.
