Our laboratory, which studies causes of persistent cognitive impairment after general anesthesia, is looking for a responsible, hands-on, and enthusiastic individual to join the lab as a Research Assistant. Working under the general supervision of Principal Investigators, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures this individual will conduct a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established and calculate, transcribe, and analyze data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under supervision.Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tests following established methodologies including those used for molecular biology (Western Blotting, immunohistochemistry, confocal laser microscopy), cell harvesting and culturing, animal behavior
(maze learning) and assistance with anesthesia and monitoring of anesthetized rats.
Record data, summarize, and analyze results using basic statistics.
Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.
Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.
Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.
All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS

All other duties as assigned.The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS in Biology, Biochemistry, or related science field with an interest in medicine and medical research and a willingness to work with rodents. Previous laboratory experience and know-how, either work-related or academic, is strongly preferred, though job-specific techniques will be taught as needed. We desire an individual who is efficient, organized, and resourceful. Our group is small and, as such, we are seeking a mature, responsible person who can multi-task, self-motivate, and work independently. A two-year commitment is preferred, although we would consider a one-year commitment for a strong candidate.
