Laboratory Technician - Temp

Primary Purpose

To provide technical support for the research grant entitled, “Development of a Hepatitis Core-based Alzheimer’s Disease Vaccine”

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential Job Functions

Perform laboratory techniques such as serum ELISAs, western blots, DNA cloning, and protein expression assays daily
Perform library and internet research on scientific and research topics relating to laboratory animal use and care
Prepare written reports of laboratory research results and literature searches
REQUIREMENTS
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Basic skill in the use of laboratory equipment (including centrifuges, ELISA readers, shakers, pipettors, electrophoresis units, thermocyclers).
Knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology, and protein chemistry laboratory techniques (including molecular cloning, immunoassays, and protein expression).
Ability for logical, independent problem solving, and attention to detail and process.
Basic skill in the use of Microsoft Office Software (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

Qualifications Standard

1.Education:Associates degree or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences preferred.

2.Experience: 1+ years experience as a research/laboratory technician required. Experience with protein expression, purification and analysis is highly desirable.

Duties of the Laboratory Technician are normally performed in a typical life science laboratory and office setting. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and must work with toxic or caustic chemicals according to institutional safety standards. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate due to the proximity of various laboratory equipment and office machines and light laboratory traffic.
