Laboratory Technician

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, performing, and reporting results from assorted clinical laboratory procedures and analytical laboratory assays under minimal supervision in our St. Joseph, Missouri Pet Care Center.

Maintain a safe, clean and sanitary work environment
Conduct all activities in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all required Company policies and procedures
Perform all necessary cleaning (eg. glassware) duties
Schedule & perform clinical laboratory procedures according to protocol submitted
Perform biological & clinical (e.g. blood, urinalysis, fecal, etc.) assays as required to support the nutritional research efforts of the facility and health care of our pets
Maintain accurate records/log of analytical requests and data
Effectively communicate results, through written technical documentation and reports
Report to veterinarian and/or Project Leader (Nutritionist) any unusual clinical results
Prepare samples for shipping to external laboratories
Ensure proper function of and perform routine/minor maintenance on laboratory equipment
Travel as necessary
Practice safety in the work area

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Continue to expand knowledge in scientific field
Establish and maintain good relationships with vendors and counterparts at other Nestlé operations
Actively participate in cross training as needed as well as learning new skills required due to technology advances
Maintain competency with computer programs in support of the essential job functions

REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma (or GED)
Excellent working knowledge of all laboratory equipment and GLP's
Good teamwork, interpersonal, communication, organization, math and writing skills
Computer literacy

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERED:
Bachelor's degree in science field (microbiology, chemistry, etc.) Training/classes in Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology
