Fund Research Analyst

Job Description:

To provide Schwab's core individual investing clients and brokers
with pre-eminent mutual fund research and decision support materials
and to provide world-class portfolio management services for clients
enrolled in discretionary accounts. The primary responsibilities
will include analyzing and producing original brokerage research on
mutual funds. The candidate will also make fund recommendations to
senior executives for various Schwab mutual fund lists, including
Schwab's Mutual Fund OneSoure Select List. And, the candidate will
make fund recommendations to the portfolio management team for
Schwab's discretionary mutual fund wrap products. Ongoing written
contributions to mutual fund related articles and marketing materials
will also be required.


Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant investment industry experience -
experience directly related to the field of investment manager
analysis or measurement is preferred. Experience producing written
research on investment managers would be a plus. Strong reading,
writing and analytical skills are vital along with a deep interest in
active and passive investment strategies. Experience conducting
portfolio manager interviews or verbal interaction with portfolio
managers is also desirable. Excellent working knowledge of most major
Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access,
and PowerPoint. Knowledge of any of the following software programs:
Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, Zephyr, Ibbotson, Excel - VBA.
Individuals possessing their CFA charter with a sincere interest in
furthering their understanding of portfolio management are preferred.


Critical Success Factors:

Analytical skills: The ability to comprehend, differentiate and
evaluate a variety of investment strategies employed by portfolio
managers is important to this position. The applicant must be capable
of synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information to produce
recommendations on mutual funds. Communication and Interpersonal
skills: Excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication
skills are required to summarize complex investment strategies. An
aptitude for conducting interviews and interacting with senior
portfolio managers is necessary. Organizational & Teamwork: The
ability to manage multiple assignments within a team environment.
