Provide technical support to CSC manufacturing plant Quality laboratories, Operations, R&D, WWQ and Purchasing by performing microbiological testing, procedure assessment/development, proficiency testing, and spoilage analysis.Principal Accountabilities
Design, execute and interpret results of product analyses to determine shelf-life, safety or quality attributes, sources of spoilage and microbial stability of food products with minimal support from supervisor.
Assist with the design execution and interpretation of experiments directed at establishing heat resistance, thermal death times and optimization to the thermal process with minimal support from management.
Provide technical information regarding food microbiology in order to assist others in the development of new/revised products, determination of spoilage or sanitation issues and execution of analytical testing.
Problem solve plant manufacturing issues dealing with spoilage and/or food safety.
Job Complexity
This position is required to conduct microbial stability determinations of new or reformulated products under the guidance of the supervisor. The candidate must have the ability to design the appropriate analytical tests taking into consideration the typical spoilage organisms encountered in the food matrix being tested. Knowledge of intrinsic and extrinsic factors as well as preservative systems is necessary in designing the study. The candidate must be able to clearly interpret the results and make recommendations based on his/her findings.
This position is required to assist in problem solving spoilage incidents that occur within our plants, vendors or co-packing facilities. The candidate must have the ability to relate possible causes of spoilage or contamination to the manufacturing environment. The candidate must then validate through scientific analyses the cause and probable solution to the spoilage issue.
Education & Experience
Required Education: BS Microbiology or Food Microbiology
Education Preferred: MS Microbiology or Food Microbiology
Minimum Experience: 5+ years in a food microbiology laboratory and 2+ years in a food manufacturing facility

Qualifications
The position requires expertise in food microbiology and a fundamental background in food science, food processing, and food chemistry. Candidates should be well-versed in the dynamics between microorganisms, food and various food processing parameters as well as had experience in thermal process development.
This position requires the candidate to be capable of designing, executing and interpreting analytical testing of food products, including shelf-life testing, challenge testing, and spoilage analysis with minimal support from supervisor.
This position requires a working knowledge of food plant manufacturing processes and operations.
The position requires proficiency at investigating and problem-solving spoilage and sanitation issues with minimal support from supervisor.
The position requires the candidate to be computer literate and capable of utilizing complex analytical equipment.
The position requires the candidate to be detail-oriented, well-organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The position requires a minimum of a BS in Food Microbiology, Food Science or Microbiology and a minimum of 5 years in a food microbiology laboratory, and a minimum of 2 years in a food manufacturing facility. An MS is preferred with a minimum of 2 years in a food microbiology laboratory and food manufacturing facility.
