JOB TITLE:Environmental Resource Specialist

SUPERVISED BY:Environmental Manager

DEFINITION/PURPOSE:
Assists with general environmental department operations and projects centered on an array of ecological issues to sustain or improve environmental and ecological integrity at Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Projects are related to arid watersheds, riparian ecosystems, water quantity, flora and fauna assessments, range ecology and management, avian ecology, emergency response, solid waste management, environmental planning, and public outreach. The Natural Resource Specialist is responsible for planning and administering projects funded under the Environmental Protection Agency General Assistance Program Grant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assists in the Planning, administering, and implementing scientific projects to further the understanding of FMYN environmental issues and ecosystems
•With the assistance of Ft. McDowell Grants Manager, assist with grant management operations and formulate grant budgets
•Assist with the monitoring, reviewing, interpreting, and administering federal, and Tribal regulations and policies as they pertain to environmental projects
•Assist in the generation of scientifically based tribal conservation and environmental policies, ordinances, and standards
•Assist in the development of a GIS/GPS database and analysis capabilities at FMYN
•Interact with environmental regulators and stakeholders
•Lend technical leadership on environmental issues to tribal members and government programs
•Assist with ecosystem impact assessments of potential development projects
•Assist in the formulations of grant proposals and budgets to actively pursue funding for program development
•Assist Environmental Manager with long range environmental planning for Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation
REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:
•Knowledge of ecology, specifically desert terrestrial and riparian ecosystems and resource management
•Familiarity with environmental laws and regulations such as Federal Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Resource Conservation Recovery Act, Nation Environmental Protection Act
•Ability to perform projects or task management, scientific research, data collection, analysis, and interpretation including the ability to synthesize and critically evaluate environmental data
•Excellent communication writing skills including statistical and technical writing necessary for grant proposals, report writing, and environmental narratives
•Working knowledge of ArcView and ArcInfo and Trimble Pathfinder GPS
•Strong computing skills including the ability to develop and maintain environmental databases
•Excellent personal skills necessary to interact with FMYN tribal members, staff, and enterprises as well as environmental stakeholders and regulators
•Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with people of varied economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:
(1) A.A. S. Degree in Natural Resource Management or related field; (2) three years related work experience; (3) experience working with tribal government strongly desirable; (4) current Arizona driver’s license and ability to meet FMYN insurance standards.

PAY: RATE:$38370.34 - $46,044.41 Per Annum (DOE)
