Technical Manager...Steel, Aluminum, Plastics

Our client is a major player in the automotive industry, a rapidly growing automotive OEM.In this search we're looking for a “technical expert”, with thorough knowledge of the steel, aluminum and plastics industries.
POSITION PURPOSE:This position is accountable for developing the technical material expertise for steel, aluminum, and plastics industries in support of corporate business objectives. This manager establishes interfaces from engineering, product development, manufacturing, suppliers, and parts distribution. They will be responsible for aiding negotiations through raw material knowledge, providing advice on material clauses with suppliers, understanding of materials markets, networking with material manufacturers and becoming the company’s center of knowledge for each raw material market.PRIMARY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIRED END RESULTS•Achieve department financial, operational, and quality results.
•Develop cost reduction/profit improvement plans to directly impact yearly economic performance to achieve business goals.
•Provide technical raw material expertise and advise to suppliers, engineering, supply managers
•Engage suppliers in raw material negotiations
•Network with commodity traders, material manufacturers, distributors
•Continual drive complexity reduction of products through standardization of raw material use
•Provide market advice to management on buy opportunities for raw materials
•Aid in management and development of raw material brokerage/consortium program for steel and plastics
•Drive strategic and timely supplier selection for steel while adhering to the International sourcing process to ensure best-in-class suppliers capable of supporting product programs, supply base rationalization and sourcing strategies.
•Ensure continuous improvement of technical and professional skills of all direct reports through effective training and developmental programs and assignments.
•Provide vision, direction and expertise to direct reports and cross-functional team members in the support of International’s purchasing policies and procedures.
•Provide direction to Supply Managers in the support of project management activities connected to product program and supply chain management deliverables.JOB CONTACTS

•2-5 years of direct purchasing or related commodity experience
•Technical bachelor’s degree required – degreed engineer or metallurgist•Ability to travel approximately 20%
•Experience in creating, leading and driving teams
