Divisional Purchasing Manager

SUMMARY: The primary function is to plan, administer, evaluate and control profitable short and long term objectives of the Purchasing Department as well as responsible for supervising, coordinating and motivating Purchasing Department personnel. Must have a thorough knowledge of Purchasing Theories and concepts such as: GMROI, EOQ, Min-Max, Line Point, Order Point, Calendar based purchasing / Need based purchasing, etc. Must have experience setting purchasing system parameters to achieve improved turns and service levels. Must have experience managing a P/L. Distribution Industry experience a must.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

*Procures and manages inventory items as deemed necessary by the Division, Regional, and/or Branch management teams.
*Maintains inventory levels that provide sufficient quantities of the correct items to service the area.
*Works with Replenishment team to monitors and manages inventory to minimize excess and obsolete inventory items.
*Negotiates prices and quotations with vendors.
*Ensures products that are ordered are correctly received and invoiced.
*Assures the accuracy of the item and vendor files.
*Participates in product meetings, seminars and training schools to enhance and maintain personal and product knowledge.
*Establishes and maintains professional and harmonious vendor relationships.
*Communicates with branches to effectively shift excess and inactive inventories to where better able to sell.
*Participates in improving the business by offering potential alternatives to existing methods.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
*Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Business, Supply Chain or related discipline or equivalent related experience.
*Thorough knowledge of the distribution industry and knowledge of how product inventory is purchased.
*Proven purchasing, inventory and management skills.
*APICS certification a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or employees of organization. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors and staff to make an accurate assessment of business needs and to coordinate purchasing operations with other departments to ensure that the customer's requirements are satisfied.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to verify and calculate figures such as cost, commissions, credit, rebate and profit, understand and interpret financial data and reports and balance sheets.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to use sound judgment and problem solving skills to analyze software defects and to recommend the proper course of action. Ability to organize and prioritize job projects and requirements.
