Outreach Specialist

Summary/Position Objectives:
This position requires the incumbent to service a high volume of inbound telephone inquiries in the Case Management Department of the Mercy Care Plan (MCP). The inbound calls are received primarily from pregnant members, Obstetricians and their office staff.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
ØResponsible for handling high volume telephone calls from members, providers and providers office staff.
ØAuthorizes pre-approved global OB service.
ØResearch claim issues that require correction in authorizations for selected maternity services.
ØIdentifies and reports all newborns to AHCCCS.
ØAssists members in selecting an appropriate OB provider and obtaining needed services.
ØIs a referral source for members to access needed services.
ØAssigns PCP for newborns and re-assigns member at 8 weeks post delivery.
ØConducts telephonic assessments of potentially at risk perinatal members.
ØGather, sorts and tracks required data.
ØDocuments all transactions in appropriate databases.
ØResponsible for maintaining a professional level of telephone etiquette and manners.
ØMaintains good working relationships with other Mercy Care Plan and Schaller Anderson Inc. (SAM) employees.
Secondary Functions:
ØObserve confidentiality of member records in accordance with MCP policies and procedures.
ØAbides by all corporate, plan specific and departmental policies and procedures.
ØWorks in a manner that is not disruptive to peers, supervisors and/or subordinates.
ØMust maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.
ØMust be available and willing to work such days and hours as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
ØParticipate in other MCP committees as designated by Supervisor and or Manager, Case and Disease Management.
ØPerform other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Skills:
ØAbility to interact well with all internal and external customers
ØExcellent written and oral skills.
ØStrong organizational, and time management skills.
ØComputer literate, Microsoft Office preferred.
ØMust have reliable transportation with appropriate insurance.

Education and Work Experience:
ØHigh School Diploma or GED.
ØOne year of higher education preferred.
ØTwo years of health related experience, including knowledge of medical terminology.
ØExperience in an OB provider office and or a similar health plan.
ØCustomer Service experience preferred.
