European IT workers want their wireless

IT departments want their applications delivered over wireless networks and don't much care what kind of wireless technology is used. That's the big picture finding of research carried out by QNB Intelligence on behalf of IBM.

The analyst house found three-quarters of European enterprises will deliver apps wirelessly during the next 12 months, using a combination of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System), public wireless LAN and devices from cell phones to PDAs (personal digital assistants) to laptops. The survey of almost 500 senior influencers and decision makers across 11 European countries found IT departments have taken ownership of mobile and wireless communications in 60 percent of cases.
