Develop educational strategies that align with medical drivers and brand objectives from which appropriate spontaneous and planned educational grant opportunities and tactics are deployed (Sr. Manager does independently, Manager does with support from Director/Sr. Manager)).
Collaborate with publications managers, medical information, medical units, and health economics and outcomes to ensure fully integrated strategies and tactics.
Possess an in depth knowledge of clinical data and educational needs within their assigned therapeutic area and translate this into a high quality, innovative and strategic education plan.
Develop and perform educational needs assessments for appropriate medical audiences who use our productsEducation Tactical Implementation, Vendor and Budget Management, and Program Evaluation
Ensure high quality implementation of planned educational grants that will include an appropriate mix of CME and non-CME live meetings and enduring materials including CD ROMs, websites, web casts, audio, supplements, newsletters, etc.).
Critically evaluate education vendors for capacity to develop highest quality, innovative CME programming consistent with principles of adult learning and ensure compliance with ACCME standards and all internal and external policies and regulations.
Manage vendors to ensure that medical education activities are of the highest scientific rigor, educationally well designed and delivered in a timely, cost-efficient manner and in compliance with regulatory requirements
Develop and implement outcome measures /metrics on overall plan and selected projects as required.
Participate in the review of spontaneous educational grants and contribute to education grant committee
Critically evaluate vendor budgets for proposed education activities
Develop and manage annual budget for overall education plan, including providing regular updates, tracking and modifications as required with one or more therapeutic areas
Assist with medical and education advisory boards and slide content validation as required
Develop and enhance relationships with global, national, and regional medical leaders within their assigned therapeutic area.Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication
Participate in cross-functional teams, and ensure working teams meet frequently to evaluate educational program and provide feedback to next level.
Lead and work with colleagues cross-functionally, both internally and externally including marketing, market research, sales, regulatory, legal, finance, regional medical liaisons, health economics, US and global medical, managed care and medical information etc.
Present written and oral reports to ensure key stakeholders are fully aware of educational strategy and activities.
Management and Training
Maintain an accurate and current database on the status of all projects with a log of each project's activities.
Mentor and/or manage less experienced education managers, fellows, or grant coordinators (Sr. Managers)
Participate in developing educational materials and providing training within the medical education group.(Sr. Manager)
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements:
Advanced degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD, MS, MBA etc. strongly preferred. May substitute 4-5 years of experience in medical education and/or publications with outstanding past performance in a similar role.
3+ years experience (Sr. Manager) or 1-2 years (Manager) in the pharmaceutical or related industry, academia, medical society or organization, or education/publication vendorSkills and Knowledge Requirements:
Experience in CME, knowledge of educational design, principles of adult learning and advances in CME methods.
Ability to manage multiple projects, and work across functions in a matrix organization to ensure that all business needs are met (Sr. Manager)
Ability to develop comprehensive and integrated medical educational plan that meets business objectives and successfully disseminates corporate sponsored clinical study data to address education needs and improve patient care
Strong clinical knowledge in a therapeutic area, or ability to gain therapeutic knowledge quickly
Proven scientific analytical skill: understanding of biostatistics data/reports
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong and consistent attention to detail
Experience in managing vendors and organizing medical education tactics including live events, advisory boards, publications and other media
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to build successful relationships with key medical leaders and internal colleagues
Understanding of medical and regulatory affairs, drug development, FDA and regulatory guidelines (ie, PhRMa guidelines, internal SOPs, OIG, AMA, ACCME, etc.)
