Associate Chemist

The Valspar Corporation, founded in 1806, is a $3 billion global paint and coatings manufacturer employing 7,000+ people worldwide. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Architectural Business Group as an Associate Chemist located at our Wheeling, IL facility. The Architectural Business Group, a division of Valspar, manufactures brand and private label interior and exterior paints, stains and varnishes for the do-it-yourself home center and hardware wholesaler markets.Our Associate Chemist will be responsible for performing entry-level professional analysis, testing, and formulation of new products and requirements.RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulatin of new products, cost reductions and re-engineering of products
Provide formula feedback, perform short-term projects, and interpret test results
Work with other chemists and lab managers to accomplish the goals of the laboratory
Prepare lab batches of paint and related products; may also require the testing of paint batches
Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules and regulations
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
0-1 year experience; prior experience working in a lab environment a plus
Experience using lab equipment
Ability to understand and apply fundamental chemistry principles and practices
Requires basic understanding of testing, applications and regulatory issues
Must be able to communicate technical information
Must have good interpersonal skills and be a team player
Good computer skills (experience working with Microsoft Office)
Must have good color vision and able to match colors (cannot be color blind)
