Tool Designer--immediate opportunity with medical device company

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Tool Designer with strong 3-D CAD skills. This is a long term contract opportunity with a leading medical device company in Largo, FL.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Must have experience designing Single-station or progressive
stamping and forming dies.

-Will possess 7-10 years experience designing tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, machinery and equipment.

-Associates degree in an engineering field is strongly desired.

-Extensive computer working knowledge of CAD software is required, to include its database management systems and the application of spreadsheets.

-Solid Edge, CAD software is strongly desired.

-Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with engineers, designers and tool makers to manage project from conception through implementation. Must display creativity, an analytical mind, and a capacity for detail.

-Demonstrated ability to design tooling and fixturing to meet customer design requirements in a timely fashion.

-Design experience to include the design and specification of pneumatic, mechanical, and electromechanical components for assemblies is required.

-Possess the ability to be self-directed, task oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

-Demonstrated experience with the Kaizen approach to continuous improvement and LEAN manufacturing concepts are required.

-Working knowledge of 6 Sigma and its application to design for manufacturing is desired.

-Working knowledge of ECO process is preferred.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Prepares highly complex design drawings and may provide guidance to drafting personnel in generating all other detail component drawings, electro-mechanical assemblies, assembly drawings, parts lists, wiring diagrams and drawing structures.

-Assists the Tooling Engineers with the design of new tooling, fixturing and equipment.

-Must be able to transmit ideas, instructions, and information with clarity and accuracy in a real time environment.

-Responsibilities include analyzing the requirements and designs of tool requests. Ensure compliance with ASME standards and internal standards, to include dimension and tolerance stack-ups and design for manufacturability.

-Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches schematics and models.

-Evaluates and improves manufacturing process/aids.

-Must be willing to participate in Kaizen events and complete projects in a timely manner with very little lead time.

-Tooling designs must exhibit the use of Jidoka, Poka-Yoke, and Hanedashi.

-Document design changes, develop and maintain database management of equipment drawings and design history files to include ECO processes DOP's and SOP's.

-Continuously develop and maintain CAD common parts library.

-Must have working knowledge of materials, to include selection, heat treatment and surface finishing.

-Confers with vendors in the determination of specifications for materials, tooling, and fixturing.

-Must be a trainer/mentor, and direct the work of other Tool Designers and Drafters.

-Must be able to direct the work of lower level designers and drafters.
