CURATOR/PROPERTY MANAGER Juliette Gordon Low Center

The Curator/Properties Manager is responsible for overseeing the preservation of the Wayne-Gordon House, a national historic landmark, the management of ongoing maintenance for the site; purchasing, inventory control, and curatorial care functions for the Juliette Gordon Low Girl Scout National Center. She/he supports the Director, Juliette Gordon Low Center, GSUSA's National Properties Manager, and the Birthplace Advisory Group in ensuring the historical integrity of the buildings and furnishings. Plans the annual meeting for the Birthplace Advisory Group, establishes the agenda, proposes projects for consideration by the group, and carries out the recommendations as budget allows.

The Curator/Properties Manager obtains proposals for projects and bids from contractors and recommends contract awards. She/he oversees the work of contractors performing renovations and preserving the historic collection and the Wayne-Gordon House. Supervises and provides work direction to the Maintenance Mechanic and Facilities Specialist staff for the daily care of the site. She/he maintains an awareness of local, state, and federal safety, health, and fire regulations; alerts the Director of unsafe conditions and the remedy to fix these conditions. Updates the written disaster procedures for the site and coordinates training of the staff in their execution.

The Curator/Properties Manager conducts research on the collections and architecture of the Wayne-Gordon House and presents the results to staff members. Researches and writes background materials and disseminates information for use in interpretation, program, administration, or other projects. Delivers interpretative programs for Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scout visitors, and actively participates in the research, planning, and development of the programs. Also plans and executes special events as requested. She/he supervises the maintenance of descriptive inventories of the historic collection, furniture, and equipment at the Juliette Gordon Low Center for GSUSA Risk and Insurance and National Properties units. Identifies supplies, furniture, and equipment for purchase and coordinates purchases.

The Curator/Properties Manager registers and catalogs new objects entering the Center's collections and ensures that both written and electronic records are complete. She/he ensures that proper storage procedures are being utilized for the collections. Based on documented research, the incumbent makes recommendations on accessions to or deletions from the collection to the Director, Juliette Gordon Low Center and the Birthplace Advisory Group.Job Requirements'Minimum 5 years' proven experience in preservation of historic structures
'Extensive knowledge of construction techniques, building maintenance, and space planning
'Interest in history particularly late 19th and early 20th century a plus
'Demonstrated knowledge of 19th century decorative arts and their care
'Minimum 2 years' experience managing independently and with a high level of skill in project management
'Demonstrated experience and interest in public speaking
'Proven supervisory experience
'Bachelor's degree in Historic Preservation or Historic Administration preferred, or equivalent relevant experience in architecture or interior design
