The Respiratory Therapist assesses, treats, and cares for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Provides patient and staff education as it relates to pulmonary anatomy, physiology and disease processes. Consults directly with the physician concerning the patient care plan of therapy. Assumes primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities including selected special procedures. Provides supervision of respiratory therapy orientees and students. Initiates and conducts therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Maintains patient and departmental records. Selects, assembles, checks, and operates equipment. Performs moderately complex laboratory tests and maintains quality control of blood gas analyzers. Associates degree in Respiratory Care required. Registration with the NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required. Indiana State Board of Health registration as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) required. Basic Life Support CPR license required.
