Position Summary:

The Charge Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of all patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing medically complex conditions, general medical-surgical conditions, with rehabilitation and/or wound care needs. He/She is also responsible for the overall direction and supervision of all nursing department personnel during his/her shift. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to carry out the nursing process when providing care to patients. Satisfies the established standards of the nursing practice, supervises, delegates, and coordinates personnel assigned to the unit and patient care. Promotes teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.

Position Supervisory Responsibilities:

Registered Nurse, License Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistant, Nurse Technician, Monitor Tech, and Unit Secretary.
REQUIREMENTS
Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

§ Ability to project a Professional Image.

§ Knowledge of regulatory standards, compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures.

§ Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations.

§ Strong organizational and analytical skills.

§ Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions. (order entry, data entry).

§ Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

§ Freedom from illegal use of drugs.

§ Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Prefer a Registered Nurse with supervisory experience in long-term acute care or geriatric nursing. Two or more years experience as a RN in acute care is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

A Registered Nurse who is currently licensed to practice, in good standing, by the state of employment. Must maintain current CPR certification throughout employment. ACLS certification required within 1 year of employment or as available courses allow. (Applies to full-time RN, Charge Nurses, ICU and PRN who routinely charge and/or work ICU.)
