Assistant Director of Nursing - Registered Nurse
POSITION SUMMARY Assists the Director of Nursing Services in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility and as may be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director and/or the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Essential Position Duties
•Assist the Director in developing a cohesive nursing team by leading, motivating and supporting staff in daily operation.
•Supports a positive and professional image that emulates the organization’s mission statement and encourages a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with co-workers.
•Assists the Director in determining the staffing needs of the nursing service department.
•Assists the Director in the recruitment, interview process and selections of nursing service personnel.
•Assists with ensuring that a sufficient number of nursing personnel and/or registered nurses are available for each tour of duty to ensure that quality care is maintained.
•Assists with development of work assignments and schedule duty hours, and/or assist nursing supervisory staff in completely and performing such tasks.
•Coaches, counsels, evaluates and disciplines personnel. Ensures that departmental personnel action is administered fairly in accordance with Human Resource Policy and Procedures.
•Participates in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes that provide instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensure a well-educated nursing service department.
•Makes daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Reports findings to the Director.
•Assists Director in coordinating facility clinical interdisciplinary team and supervise interdisciplinary process.
•Assists Director in implementing, coordinating and supervising compliance with Resident Care Management Systems.
•Reviews facility change of condition report daily and supervises/coordinates nursing services and care plan interventions.
•Reviews resident medical records as directed to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures.
•Assists Director in monitoring the Resident Assessment Instrument process to ensure it is maintained and completed in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and SunBridge Policy and Procedures.
•Review of nurses’ notes as directed to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes.
•Ensures corrective action has been completed on medical record audits and consultant reports.
•Provides nursing support on the floor and/or direct nursing care as necessary.
•Participates in the selection of residents for admission to the facility; supporting the facility policy of admitting residents 24 hours/7 days a week. Approves residents for admission for whom the facility can meet their needs.
•Monitors nursing service personnel to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
•Assists the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility.
•Reviews complaints/grievances in department and make recommendations for improvement. Seeks approval from Administrator prior to implementation. Ensures communication of recommendations to staff.
•Makes reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
•Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
•Participates in the facility Quality Assurance and CQI process. Serves on committees and develops/implements improvement.
•Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
•In the absence of the Director, serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget, Quality Assurance and Assessment, etc.).
•Maintains and implements department policies and procedures; ensures staff compliance.
•Attends continuing education to remain current with changes in profession and maintain license in good standing.
•Attends mandatory in-services, facility/department meetings and SunBridge meetings/training as required.
•Performs all other tasks or duties as assigned.
Job RequirementsProfessional Experience/Educational Requirements
•Long-term care experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure
•Active RN license in state of employment.
