Acute Patient Care Technician
Reports to: Acute Program Director
Exemption: Non-exempt
Summary:
Performs assigned patient care responsibilities under the direct supervision of a DaVita or Hospital registered nurse and in accordance with DaVita Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, Hospital Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, OSHA, HCFA, AAMI, federal, state and local regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and current certification as required by individual state law. The skills required for this position will generally be acquired through one year of experience in a related position to become familiar with routine patient care. Telephone, computer and keyboard skills are necessary. Successful completion of the DaVita orientation and training program for acute services personnel.

Job Functions:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are no intended to be all-inclusive. Where state regulations allow and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures as agreed upon and memorialized in the Agreement for Renal Replacement Services between the Hospital and DaVita:
Obtains vital signs and appropriate data, initiates and terminates dialysis treatments on patients with permanent fistula or graft.
Sets up, operates, cleans and disinfects dialysis and related equipment in accordance with policy and procedures.
Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with Hospital policy and if allowed by state regulations. Administers intravenous normal saline and heparin under the direction or supervision of a physician or registered nurse only in conjunction with the dialysis treatment. Administers intradermal lidocaine to produce local anthestesia prior to cannualtion of the patient’s vascular access.
Monitors equipment and patient status during dialysis treatments; documents and communicates the status to the nurse. Immediately reports any significant changes in patient condition to the nurse.
Documents treatment information in accordance with DaVita Policy and Procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of patient, Facility and acute program information.
Participates in emergency care as directed.
Participates in facility QA/CQI process.
Maintains standards of cleanliness in assigned area.
Participates in team care and promotes team concept throughout all activities; assists other staff in the performance of their duties in accordance with policies and as allowed by state regulations; performs duties and responsibilities as assigned which may include, but not limited to, patient and/or equipment transport within the Facility, inventory and clerical duties.
