Regulatory Analyst

This Regulatory Analyst works in the Research and Scientific Affairs department of our prestigious medical association. The Regulatory Analyst monitors and analyzes issues in the areas of FDA regulatory procedures, medical/surgical standard setting, biomedical engineering, and biological implants to identify trends important to orthopaedics for use by AAOS leaders in decision making. Includes review of newsletters, articles, government publications and other reports for relevant background information on relevant topics.Provides analysis and background material to committees and to the Washington office for drafting testimony and responses to regulations, policy and legislation of interest to the Academy. Participates in the development of organizational strategy to address these issues with emphasis on regulation of orthopaedic devices, biologics and alternative medicine.Serve as liaison to the Biomedical Engineering Committee, Biological Implants Committee, Infections Subcommittee, and other task forces, committees and work groups as assigned. Provides staff support to Orthopaedic Device Forum subcommittees related to the Biological Implants and Biomedical Engineering committees’ activities. Includes preparing agendas and minutes and maintaining contact with the scientific orthopaedic community, industry and FDA members. Communicates with representatives of federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other outside organizations.Establishes and maintains relationships with education, research, insurance, standard setting and medical organizations in the private sector to obtain information on subject areas of interest; attends selected meetings on relevant topics.
Prepares drafts of Bulletin articles, monographs, and other publications to help inform Fellows about the impact of pertinent issues on their practices. Participates in development, analysis, and report writing for Academy research and scientific projects. Drafts position statements.Conducts on-line searches through the National Library of Medicine and other reference retrieval services for information relevant to research topics.TRAVEL:Approximately 20 days per year
REQUIREMENTS
Required: Graduate degree in physical or natural sciences or healthcare field; a minimum of 2 years of experience working with research, health policy, or regulatory affairs; strong analytical and writing skills; strong abilities in oral communication and interpersonal relations. Desired: Knowledge of medical terminology; experience in a medical association or not-for-profit organization.RESUMES MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY COVER LETTERS AND SALARY REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION.
