Family Support Worker

Full-time position (Honolulu) to provide home visiting services to reduce family stress, teach parenting skills, assist families to link with community resources, support child development. Position provides case management/coordination services for the client families and is responsible for conducting and/or facilitating development screening on a pre-set schedule. This is accomplished by utilizing child development/parenting education, community referrals, group support and by providing transportation services when needed.

We are Catholic Charities Hawai`i and have served Hawai‘i since 1947. We are an organization long trusted in the community for our innovative and professional approach to human services. We help people in need to help themselves, regardless of their faith.
Today Catholic Charities Hawai`i employs 300 professionals, para-professionals and program support personnel. There are 38 programs in 17 different locations on four islands across the State of Hawai‘i. These programs address the following community issues:
(1)Premature institutionalization, social and financial dependency of seniors and persons with developmental disabilities;
(2)Child abuse and neglect;
(3)Children’s emotional/behavioral problems;
(4)Adult violence and abuse;
(5)Difficulties in adjusting to life’s challenges;
(6)Unplanned pregnancy;
(7)Homelessness and at-risk homelessness; and,
(8)Difficulties encountered by immigrants and refugees.

REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma plus one year experience in child abuse/neglect working with families. Must have PC skills preferably with word processing experience, and have basic understandings of child development and infant emotional health, as well as excellent observation and assessment skills.
Must be able to perform duties and tasks at a computer/desk for long periods of time; is able to prioritize demands, multi-task and work under pressure in meeting multiple attention demands and deadlines. Communicate clearly, diplomatically, and effectively, both verbally and in writing, maintaining positive personal and phone contacts, projecting open, warm and positive communications. Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs and climb at least four (4) flights of stairs.
Can relate well and work cooperatively with different ethnic groups and is sensitive to the cultural, language or dialect, financial and educational diversity of the clients and co-workers.
In addition, must have access to a vehicle, a valid driver's license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least the minimum State of Hawaii coverage requirements.
Desired Experience, Skills & Abilities:
BSW-BA, Hawai`i Healthy Start and/or infant/toddler experience preferred.
