Executive Director
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of The Shelter for Women, Inc. (SFW) and is responsible for leading SFW. The ED has responsibility for design, development, analysis, evaluation, and implementation of the policies, goals and priorities developed with the SFW Board of Directors. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
Currently reporting to the Executive Director are seven positions: Director of Education, Director of Treatment Services, Director of Alison Gill Lodge, Development Director, Financial Manger, HR Administrator, and Facilities Director.
The staff numbers 55 in total,
The annual budget is $3 million.

•An adaptable individual with a sense of humor
IDEAL EXPERIENCE
•Minimum five years professional experience as an executive or senior administrator in a public health, government, social service or similar nonprofit organization.
•Masters degree or equivalent
•Experience in behavioral health settings serving children and adolescents
•Knowledge of the Connecticut DCF system and/or similar regulatory agencies in other states
•Demonstrated success in working with diverse constituencies in a challenging and continually evolving environment
•Proven cultural competency skills or ability
•Demonstrated leadership skills, including articulating a vision and designing and implementing strategies to achieve that vision
•Demonstrated management experience in overseeing and providing direction for a professional staff
•Demonstrated experience in facilities management
•Proven experience in developing and managing a multi-million dollar budget that is directly tied to measurable, strategic goals; and in understanding and implementing appropriate fiscal accountability and internal controls
•Experience prioritizing and deploying resources in light of needs, and making sound fiscal and mission based decisions
•Experience communicating with widely diverse audiences, both in written form and public presentations
•Demonstrated effectiveness in raising significant funds from a variety of sources
REQUIREMENTS
The job responsibilities include:
Programmatic Leadership
•Unify programs around the core mission of SFW
•Monitor the changing environment and adjust programs accordingly
•Develop and implement an annual operating plan
•Foster collaborative relationships with other agencies
•Stay current with related trends and research
•Long range strategic planning
Development
•Optimize revenue and fundraising opportunities
•Oversee development of a comprehensive fundraising plan with the board
•Strengthen and promote a coherent public identity and message
Fiscal Management
•Ensure the maintenance of sound financial practices
•Participate in preparing a budget
•Provide the Board regularly with accurate, concise financial information to support sound financial decision making
•Oversee preparation of necessary financial information for taxes, reports and audits
Board Relationships
•Build and maintain an effective working relationship with the board
•Maximize board effectiveness
•Enhance the board’s overall understanding of the mission, programs and activities of SFW
Community and Public Relations
•Represent and advocate for SFW with media, civic groups and governmental bodies, acting as a spokesperson to diverse audiences
•Increase the visibility of SFW in the community
Administration
•Attract and retain a diverse staff of highly qualified, culturally competent personnel
•Build an effective management team
•Maintain a high level of staff performance standards, expectations, and accountability
•Ensure ongoing staff professional development
•Ensure the safety and well-being of the residents
•Obtain and maintain accreditation and all necessary licensure
•Ensure maintenance of the physical plant and negotiate maintenance contracts
