Reports To:Executive DirectorGeneral Purpose of PositionThe Director of Development provides vision and leadership to staff, board and volunteers in the creation and implementation of a strategic fundraising plan for Between Friends. The Director of Development is a member of the senior management team who serves as a key liaison to the board, committees and external constituencies, including individuals, community groups, corporations and foundations. The Director of Development is responsible for the agency's fundraising initiatives and the oversight of marketing, public relations, and special events undertaken at the agency and for the supervision of development staff. The Director of Development will raise $700,000 of a 1.1 mill. agency budget.ResponsibilitiesFundraising
•Works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and management staff in the establishment and execution of a comprehensive development program to accommodate the short- and long-term needs of the organization.
•Prepares and implements an annual, detailed plan and budget describing development and public relations activities to meet specific operating needs for the upcoming year, including major individual giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving and special events.
•Personally participates in major gift fundraising activities, maintaining contact with significant donor prospects and donors before and after gifts are committed.
•Provides leadership and support to the Board of Directors and its Fundraising Committee and strengthens their abilities to participate in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors.
•Coordinates and supports the major special events and their related event committees.•Serves as the staff liaison on the Young Professionals Group.
•Creates new strategies to advance fundraising and institutional efforts.•Oversees the design and implementation of direct mail campaigns.
•Develops and maintains comprehensive policies and procedures to guide development activities, such as donor records management, acknowledgments, gift acceptance and recognition.
Marketing/Public Relations
•Oversees preparation and publication of all communications materials and public relations activities.•Serves as the staff liaison on the Marketing committee of the Board.Supervisory
•Recruits, hires, supervises and evaluates all development staff.
General•Becomes active in and represents the organization in professional, community and service organizations.
•Provides services as determined by Board of Director’s policies.
•Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education – Bachelor degree required.Experience – REQUIRED: Minimum three years of professional fundraising experience, including management of fundraising activities and demonstrated experience in meeting fundraising goals. Prior major donor experience highly desirable. Public relations experience/knowledge highly desirable. Strong leadership, organizational and communications skills. Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with board members, volunteers, donors and staff. Must have an understanding and commitment to the mission and philosophy of Between Friends.Licenses/Certification – None requiredComputer and software knowledge – PC literate with strong skills in experience in MS Office (word, excel), donor software (DonorQuest), and publication/graphic design
