Court Advocate Bilingual (Spanish/English)

The Court Advocate provides advocacy to people seeking orders of protection in civil court at the 3rd Municipal District of Cook County (Rolling Meadows).
ResponsibilitiesProgram
•Helps victims of domestic violence to understand their rights and the legal remedies available to them under IDVA•Assists clients in obtaining civil Orders of Protection and navigating the court processes by working with judges, court clerks, state’s attorneys, etc.; supports clients through scheduled hearings at court; and provides resources/referrals for clients
•Identifies barriers to service for domestic violence victims within the court and police systems and recommends solutions to advocate on behalf of individual victims
•Conducts presentations about the IDVA, Orders of Protection and the criminal justice process for volunteer training, new staff, court and police personnel and community groups
•Supervises assigned volunteers and interns providing court advocacyAdministration
•Completes client files and statistical reports
•Evaluates all aspects of the court advocacy programGeneral
•Participates in the on-call crisis line rotation with other staff
•Staffs the crisis line on an as-needed basis
•Completes other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Education – Bachelor degree required
Experience – Previous experience in domestic violence services, advocacy or the court process preferredLicenses/Certification - None requiredComputer and software knowledge – PC literate with experience in word processingLanguages – Bilingual Spanish/English
