AlphaMed Press publishes two international renowned peer-reviewed journals: Stem Cells, now in its 24th year, and The Oncologist, now in its 11th year.
Stem Cells is the oldest and one of the top tier peer-reviewed monthly journals in the fast-paced area of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Its Impact Factor (6.094) and editorial board reflect this leadership.
The Oncologist is dedicated to being the finest peer-accepted monthly publication in cancer medicine. Directed to physicians entrusted with cancer patient care, the Journal is committed to community- and hospital-based oncologists. With an enviable Impact Factor (5.134) and a publication base of more than 20,000 readers to its print editions (US & European), the Journal also welcomes a weekly online readership of more than 70,000.
Primary Function
Promote the publisher’s mission for the timely dissemination of information and knowledge to practitioners, researchers and students. Manage a growing independent publications enterprise of two scientific and medical journals, and other ancillary publications, including the periodic production of books. Oversee the process from peer review, production through publication, advertising and global circulation/readership outreach.
Responsibilities
?Manage the journals’ publishing program, maximizing sales and operating surplus while upholding the journals’ core values and high editorial standards.
?Oversee the day-to-day operations of the journals, including:
oCirculation management and promotion
oInstitutional sales, content licensing, rights & permissions
oAdvertising and other business-to-business sales
oVendor relationships
oCustomer relations
oPeer review
oPrint and online production
?Grow international circulation using sophisticated, targeted, and timely promotions. Conceive and implement subscription policies, rates, and licensing strategies that support the fiduciary and educational mission of the business. Work closely with colleagues to provide responsive customer service.
?Guide advertising sales efforts to higher sales, more pages, and greater market share. Pave the way for improved business-to-business sales such as commercial reprints, sponsored subscriptions, supplements and other sponsored programs in keeping with the business’s mission.
?Ensure timely, high-quality production of the journals’ print and online editions. Work with editorial staff to implement new editorial enhancements, whether in print or online. Maintain and improve editorial production procedures to reduce time from manuscript submission to publication. Adapt to appropriate new production technologies and platforms.
?Work with the financial staff to ensure the continuing fiscal soundness of the business, balancing this goal with that of maintaining and enhancing journal quality.
?Stay abreast of publishing trends to bring the latest, best practices to the publications. Review monthly financials to monitor sales and costs, looking always for improvement.
?Lead a staff of seven – ten members plus network of sales agents and service providers

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
?Minimum BA/BS seven to ten years of management experience in the scholarly publishing area. Familiarity with medicine/science/healthcare preferred. Familiarity with both subscription-based and controlled circulation publications helpful.
?Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet browsing and searching. Interest in new technologies.
?Willingness to travel to medical meetings, Editorial Offices, vendors, others.
