Director, Publications Division and Publisher

The American Academy of Family Physicians, the national association of family doctors, with more than 94,000 members, has an opening for the Director, Publications Division & Publisher. The position directs all aspects of publications management, strategy and planning for AAFP’s journals, American Family Physicians (24 issues/yr, 180,000 circ.) and Family Practice Management (10 issues/yr, 100,000 circ.) and for Annals of Family Medicine (6 issues/yr, 15,000 online circ.), published by AAFP under contract with Annals of Family Medicine, Inc. Bottom-line responsibility for publishing operations with annual revenues of approximately $25 million. Oversees all departments related to advertising sales, marketing, circulation and production for the publications. Manages budget process, contracts, licensing and other related aspects of the publications business. Serves as director of the Publications Division and member of AAFP’s management leadership team.

REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus ten to fifteen years of related experience. Minimum of five years in a publishing management position. Medical, professional or association publishing experience extremely desirable, with experience managing sales force and/or other business operations units. Demonstrated interest/experience and knowledge of online publishing and internet advertising strongly preferred. MBA or similar advanced management degree preferred but not required.
