Curriculum Associate

Connections Academy (CA), a “school without walls”, is a virtual educational program serving K-10 students in a non-classroom-based environment. A Parent/Learning Coach along with a certified Teacher work with students using a standards-based, online/offline hybrid curriculum supported by a host of web-based technology tools and resources. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting new schooling model that leverages new technologies, capitalizes on recent policy initiatives and creates alternative teaching and learning options for students, parents and teachers.
From an office in the Inner Harbor East area of Baltimore, the Curriculum Associate is responsible for supporting the curriculum specialist for grades K through 10 in the development of elementary, middle, and high school curriculum. Development includes reviewing existing curriculum, aligning curriculum to state standards, modifying and extending existing lessons, creating new lessons, and formulating assessments. Effective communication with curriculum team members is essential. Curriculum associates also define and oversee project work done by content writers. The Curriculum Associate will become familiar with Connections Academy’s general editorial style guide. The applicant must be able to work successfully under strict deadlines, effectively prioritize tasks according to production schedules, and multi-task when needed. Candidates with a curriculum development background are strongly encouraged to apply.Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Develop and review lessons and activities to meet specific state standards
Develop assessments, for both online and offline student use
Adapt existing lessons to meet program needs
Identify innovative strategies to meet the curricular demands of the program
Work with team of curriculum specialists to develop a comprehensive and consistent academic program
Work with software development team to define and refine the curriculum development system’s requirements
Provide subject matter expertise as needed for various company efforts
Stay current on most recent subject area strategies, trends and initiatives
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
One-to-three years’ curriculum development/writing experience
Must enjoy a challenging work environment that requires flexibility, self-direction, creativity, and strong communication skills
Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office programs)
Curriculum editing experience a plus
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and follow through skills
Ability to effectively meet deadlines
