RED ENVELOPE ENTERTAINMENT:

As part of an ongoing effort both to bring movie viewers a broader selection of entertainment choices and to provide movie producers increased viewing exposure, Netflix recently launched Red Envelope Entertainment. Red Envelope Entertainment acquires and funds original content -- with a focus on independent film, foreign-language features and documentaries – and distributes them through the company’s online DVD subscription service as well as other channels that may include theatrical, sell-through, rental, download and international.

Red Envelope Entertainment works to “democratize” film distribution by giving films and filmmakers equal access to Netflix subscribers across the U.S. The division’s name and logo were inspired by the company’s iconic red mailers.

Through its original content initiative, the company has partnered with a variety of studios and production companies including HBO, Showtime, IFC, Think Film and Big Beach Films. Some of its projects during the last five years include the Oscar-winning documentary Born Into Brothels, Tim Robbins’ scathing anti-war satire Embedded/Live, Michele Ohayon’s quirky documentary Cowboy del Amor and the 2005 Sundance Film Festival favorite The Puffy Chair. Among its recent projects are The Bituminous Coal Queens of Pennsylvania, a documentary produced by “Everybody Loves Raymond” co-star Patricia Heaton; and the upcoming, Sundance-acclaimed post-prison drama Sherrybaby¸ starring Maggie Gyllenhaal.

THE ROLE:

The Public Relations Manager will be charged with planning and executing all industry and consumer-facing promotional activities related to Netflix’s original and exclusive content through the promotion of original projects and by raising the profile of the Red Envelope Entertainment initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and execute creative public relations campaigns for titles acquired for distribution.Collaborate with Corporate Public Relations team on strategy, messaging, positioning, pitching, writing and approvals.Keep abreast of important consumer trends, providing regular creative thinking, pitch ideas and news stories.Demonstrate excellent writing skills; creating and maintaining all consumer press materials.
Maintain solid, on-going relationships with trade and consumer reporters and editors, placing regular consumer interest and trade stories on behalf of Red Envelope.
Coordinate national and regional promotions and planning and executing events, festivals and screenings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of five to seven years of related work experience; agency or corporate preferred.
Desire to develop media relations skills and relationships with top-tier consumer media.
Proven entertainment industry or film experience.Demonstrated creativity and proven understanding of popular culture, social zeitgeist and general trends.
Ability to manage a number of programs/projects simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work cooperatively and strategically with all levels of professional and technical staff within a collegial and collaborative culture.
Excellent speaking, writing and editing skills; rigorous attention to accuracy and detail.
Comfortable in fast-paced environment that values creativity, self-motivation, passion, candor, reliability and accountability.Bachelor's degree required.
