National Sales Manager

This position is a “hands on” sales management position, which requires the majority of the manager’s time to be spent in the field making sales calls and developing new business, with our Division Sales Managers. This person directly manages four Division Sales Managers, who are responsible for manufacturers representatives, distributors, OEMs and end-users in their respective territories, throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This position is also responsible for the management of our Marketing Department, which includes two employees. Directs sales staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control our sales plan and programs. Coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals. Assigns sales territory to sales personnel. Analyzes sales statistics to formulate policy and to assist Distributors in promoting sales. Develops OEM sales and new business opportunities. Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, volume potential, price schedules, and discounts, and develops sales campaigns to accommodate the goals of the company. Directs product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable items from the sales line. Represents our company at trade association meetings to promote our products and stay abreast of our industries requirements. Acts as a liaison between our sales department and our German headquarters sales-related units. Analyzes and controls expenditures of the sales division to conform to budgetary requirements. Prepares a yearly sales forecast and budget. Provides and maintains the sales forecast to ensure correct stock is kept in inventory. Manages the marketing personnel and directs them in market research, creating literature, price lists, promotions, and publicity to support the sales plan and programs. Prepares sales reports showing sales results and potential sales. Determines markets, sales channels, and opportunities to support long range sales goals and objectives. Coordinates and communicates (formally and informally) with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Administration all sales plans, programs, and related activities to ensure superior and professional service is provided to our customers.
REQUIREMENTS
Possesses superior sales and negotiation skills. Has a high energy level. Ability to travel 50% of the time. Minimum of 10 years of related sales and management industry experience. Experience in multiple sales channels, including Rep management, sales distribution and OEM direct sales. Experience managing direct and indirect sales personnel. Has a strong technical aptitude. Possesses public speaking skills to represent the company at trade shows and professional organizations. Has excellent computer skills and experience utilizing Customer Relationship Management software such as ACT! or Goldmine. Well-organized and enthusiastic individual that desires a position with a small company that offers growth potential. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Experience with researching or using market studies to open new markets. Experience with overseeing marketing plans and copywriting. Must know lighting or electrical. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
