IAP World Services, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Media Specialist to perform contract work for the USGS National Wetlands Research Center in Lafayette, LA. The National Wetlands Research Center is a source and clearing house of science information about wetlands in the United States and the world for fellow agencies, private entities, academia, and the public at large. This position specifically supports the work of the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) task force. IAP World Services is the on-site technical services contractor and supports the mission and research efforts of NWRC by hiring and managing qualified individuals in a broad range of technical disciplines to support long and near-term research projects.Position Description: The successful candidate will
Update CWPPRA outreach materials. CWPPRA project information and other data sets that are available to the public change frequently. Constant review of CWPPRA outreach material is necessary to determine if the material is current and if the material remains appropriate for the target audience. Individual shall make recommendations to Task Manager and the CWPPRA Outreach coordinator when outreach material becomes obsolete. The individual shall be responsible for coordinating changes to the CWPPRA website. Sections of the web site that must be updated frequently include Calendar of Events, news releases, FAQs, and project overviews.
Assist in the development of new outreach material. Develop handouts, outlines and other aides to assist teachers and the general public in understanding the extent of coastal loss. Example of the outreach material to be developed could include flyers to publicize the CWPPRA website and other CWPPRA media events, news releases, PowerPoint presentations, new content of the CWPPRA web site, and CWPPRA fact sheets.
Organize, plan, and present CWPPRA materials.
Organize, plan, and coordinate activities at CWPPRA dedication ceremonies. Interaction with local, state, and national media, NGO's, political figures, and senior federal officials is required.
Provide assistance at media related events. This requires interaction with local, state, and national media organizations.
Participate and present, as needed, at regional and national environmental workshops.
Call or email key CWPPRA personnel to update calendar of events on the CWPPRA web site monthly.
Quarterly, assist the CWPPRA outreach committee in the development of the Outreach report and exhibit to the Task Force.
Respond to product and information request from the CWPPRA web site.
Develop feature stories for the CWPPRA web siteRequirements: The position requires a bachelor's degree in journalism or related field (e.g., communication, education, or liberal arts).
