Director, Non-Proprietary ProductsJOb DescriptionThe Director of Non-Proprietary Products is responsible for leading Horizon’s growth in non-proprietary products across Radio Control, Trains, Plastics, and General categories. The position has primary responsibility for attainment of the corporate sales, margin, inventory turns, and fill rate targets for domestic products. This position will be located in Champaign, IL. Strategy and ExecutionThe position has primary ownership of the attainment of Non-Proprietary Product business results. As such, the director will need to define the market opportunities, developing strategies and tactics to realize such opportunities.
Promotion
Lead the group’s development of all promotional programs for Non-Proprietary Products. Define promotional opportunities with the suppliers as well as develop independent programs. Lead the group’s development of promotional content and the assessment of its effectiveness.
Service LevelsLead the groups’ efforts to balance fill rates with inventory turns according to corporate targets. Responsible for total Non-Proprietary Product inventory level and aged inventory. Proactively identify potential problems areas to launch preemptive and diagnostic initiatives prior to service degradation. Effectively communicate issues and action plans to the executive team. Leads the team in identifying and implementing continuous improvements in the purchasing functions.
Supply Chain Management and RelationshipsThe position is the primary owner of the relationships with the Horizon vendors. The incumbent should identify the key individuals for the top and new vendors, and target those individuals for face-to-face communications. The position should also lead the group’s development of supplier requirements with on-going assessment of the health of the relationship between Horizon and its vendors. The incumbent must be a role model in maintaining the highest ethical standards in relationships with suppliers, and must continually assess that such behavior exists throughout the organization.
Category ExpansionDefine areas of growth for R/C, Trains, Plastics, and General, and allocate resources to pursue those areas. Lead the new vendor process and seek exclusive relationships with new and existing vendors, working with the Product Division to prevent overlapping efforts.Organizational DesignWork with the category managers on the implementation of the Logility system, identifying the requisite impacts to job definitions and skills across the organization. Identify the required personnel moves or development plans to implement the new design.
Inter-Departmental Coordination
Work closely with the Product Division Purchasing Director in the implementation of joint promotions and common processes, with the Director of Sales in the attainment of revenue objectives, and with the Director of Distribution in the attainment of service levels. Work with the IT department to ensure system capabilities and reporting meets evolving business needs. Interface with the CFO and Accounting on A/P and inventory issues. Work with the Logistics Director to optimize inbound freight costs.

REQUIREMENTS
Job Requirements in business administration, accounting, or another related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Combined purchasing and marketing experience of five years.Work experience would include at least four years experience in a management position.Must have strong communications, analytical, and motivational skills.
Must be adept in developing and growing positive relationships with suppliers.
