Assistant Manager, Advertising Sales
Purpose:
The following skills and core competencies are requisite for the position of Assistant Sales Manager:
Position Summary
Utilizing a portfolio of print, online, direct mail, niche advertising products, the ideal candidate will assist in planning, organizing, training and evaluating sales activities to achieve the LA Times volume, growth, and profitability goals. In addition, will be responsible for increasing existing/new revenue streams by helping to coach a high-performing sales force team.
Essential Functions
The assistant sales manager will provide recommendations and assistance for the development of existing/new products and services. Partner with AE’s on sales calls). Spearhead special sections, products and track progress to goal. Act as liaison with marketing group to ensure marketing materials and presentations are updated. Develop strategic formal proposals with marketing. Assist with training new employees and the development of current staff. Fill in for manager as needed to attend meetings, handle adjustments, transfers, payroll, etc. Assist in identifying and providing lead sources for the group. Other duties and special projects, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements/Qualifications
5 years of experience in sales with a proven track record. Some management experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
In-depth knowledge of the newspaper industry, familiarity with online, inserts and magazines
Strong communication skills, written and verbal, both internally and externally. Strong negotiation and
solution skills. Able to work independently.
Ability to identify and overcome obstacles/challenges to achieve results in a deadline-oriented
environment. Demonstrate sense of urgency and accountability for overall success of department.
Must have ability to help manage the team toward common goals.
Assist in training AE’s on consultative selling process, to enhance and improve revenue to goal. Identify opportunities with existing AE’s, and take the lead with new AEs, in insuring that all AEs are fully trained, and that AE’s with potential for advancement are identified.
Along with the manager, the assistant manager will identify areas of performance deficiency by AE, and work to improve those deficiencies through an ongoing program of progressive performance management, including written coaching, four-legged sales calls, reviewing results, setting objectives, follow up, feedback and motivation.
Insure that the levels of customer service with advertisers is at the highest possible level, and will insure that dealings with inside customers are professional as well.
