Machine Shop Process Lead
SUMMARY
Supervises employees and coordinates day to day activities of workers engaged in setting up and operating CNC and Manual Machining and Turning Centers. Coordinates overall shop scheduling. Oversees projects and project improvements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include all or some of the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
1) Directs workers in setup and operation of Manual and CNC machining, Lathes, Bridgeport’s, and turning centers.
2) Working independently, designs, develops and fabricates from original designs, prints, sketches or verbal/conceptual descriptions, complex high-precision mechanical equipment, models and instruments as specified or required for special research applications, requiring knowledge of the laws and principles of mechanical engineering.
3) Assists workers in diagnosing and/or repairing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
4) Directs day to day scheduling of work centers. Is responsible for maintaining equipment and repairs to machinery.
5) Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
6) Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
7) Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
8) Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
9) Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
10) Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
11) Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
12) Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
13) Maintains time and production records.
14) Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
15) Performs activities of workers supervised.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Supervises a total of 5 to 10 employees in the Machine Shop.
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
2) Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
3) Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
1) Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or physical sciences OR Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2) Knowledge of basic principles of mechanics and mechanical design and thorough familiarity with material properties.
3) Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and ability to plan, organize and conduct shop safety courses.
4) Supervisory and training ability in various skill trades such as metal working, welding, plumbing, carpentry, sheet-metal, machine repairing, electromechanical, power generating, etc.
5) Ability to advise researchers and effectively deal with large number of multilevel projects related to different branches of engineering. Ability to read and interpret blue prints and their machine-ability.
