COMPANY INFORMATION: NorthStar Battery was formed in June 2000 for the purpose of establishing a new industrial battery business, dedicated to manufacturing and marketing a wide range of valve-recombinant sealed lead-acid batteries. We manufacture most of our products in a state-of-the-art facility located on 18 acres in Springfield, Missouri, USA. For more information, visit our web site, http://www.northstarbattery.comPRIMARY FUNCTION: The Area Manager oversees and directs all activities of manufacturing in his/her area of responsibility, with the purpose of producing quality batteries, within costs, on schedule, exceeding the customer’s expectations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Manages the activities of his/her department, under the direction of the Production Manager.
2.Plans, organizes, directs and controls the Department Supervisor’s activities, providing clear direction in their responsibilities and daily activities.
3.Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products in a timely fashion.
4.Provides job/skills-based training to grow the business and to replace employees lost to attrition.
5.Participates in the development of a close communication link between the shop personnel, Engineering, and Quality to improve profitability through greater efficiency, reduced scrap and rework costs and improved overall quality.
6.Works closely with others in establishing schedules to satisfy manufacturing requirements and provide for the lowest cost in goods produced while meeting quality and schedule requirements.
7.Supervise department Supervisors and Production Associates in coordinating department activities.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Maintains appropriate manpower to support workload.
2.Maintains department budget.
3.Evaluates employee performance.
4.Prevents and resolves employee conflict, enforces company policies and procedures and work rules. Promotes harmonious working relationships and fosters proactive problem solving and prevention.
5.Plans utilization of space, equipment, and facilities
6.Provides technical support to other departments.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.
8.Promotes safe work performance by monitoring employee activities to identify and correct unsafe practices, unsafe procedures and work place hazards.
9.Assures that all employees are properly trained and equipped to perform their jobs in a safe manner.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Requires a B.S. Degree in a related field, or 5 to 10 years of progressive manufacturing experience and responsibilities, 3 of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
2.Familiarity with management principles and practices through significant manufacturing management experience.3.Interpersonal skills to manage large workgroups.4.Demonstrated effective leadership skills to model for subordinate supervisors in dealing positively with employees, vendors, and customers.
5. Effective oral and written communication skills, including computer literacy.
6.This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.Mobility to move about a large shop area, near moving, hazardous equipment.
2.Visual acuity to read computer screens and reports.
3.Manual dexterity to utilize computer keyboard.
4.Sufficient communication skills to converse via telephone and video conferencing.
