Manager, Community Development

Select, train, and develop volunteers to implement established Relay For Life events, accomplishing the regional Relay For Life income development plan for 5 events. Guide and train key volunteers for leadership positions. Ensure volunteers follow Relay model, including CA Relay For Life standards. Encourage best practices of Relay be implemented, coach volunteers through challenges, and seek creative solutions for projects and business issues. Regularly meet with and manage community volunteers to determine plans of action for each assigned event(s). Establish and cultivate working relationships with community organizations, faith-based establishments, corporations, and key civic groups and leaders. Assertively promote the Society to community members, potential donors, and business partners within the region. Develop and maintain Relay For Life event committees to plan and implement regional Relay For Life activities. Build broad-based support and/or persuade others in order to influence important outcomes. Identify and nurture resources from which to recruit volunteers. Solicit assistance from current volunteers to recruit others. Ensure that sufficient training opportunities are available for new and existing volunteer team members. Ensure that Relays are capturing data and meeting standards for data entry into constituent database. Verify that CA Relay For Life Expansion database is updated. Understand and ensure compliance with all ACS and community policies, procedures and regulations. Activities determined by the individual region. Monitor risk management activities for each venue/site. Participate on regional project team. Attend regional, division and national training programs as requested. Manage expense and revenue for the assigned events. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Education, Health or related field, or equivalent combination of course work and work experience. Minimum 2 years successful leadership role in nonprofit fund raising, volunteer development, community organization, program planning and staff management desired. ACS or other not-for-profit field experience a definite plus. Knowledge of the population and demographics of the community. Ability to work with and within the community with volunteers, community and corporate leaders. Must have the ability to travel by car and/or airplane to event/meeting sites throughout California and the country. Provide frequent logistics support at events/meetings including set-up and clean-up which may require repetitive lifting and carrying of materials up to 25 lbs.
