ITI Storage Capacity Manager

With responsibility for Capacity planning for all of the UBS business entities; Investment Bank, Wealth Management and Business Banking, Asset Management. Storage itself accounts for a significant proportion of the IT Infrastructure budget and as such the role offers a challenging position within the IT organisation. The team will be comprised of two people in the US, two people in London, one in Asia and one in Switzerland.The storage capacity manager role is a senior role within the storage service within the UBS central IT organisation ‘ITI’. To co-ordinate with the capacity co-ordinators within the UBS business operating entities, collate their storage forecast requirements and in conjunction with utilisation data, translate the forecasts into purchasing decisions and deployments as required. To manage the storage budget globally, producing justification for spend and managing through the approval process. Liaise with vendors, purchasing and finance to ensure the process from requirement, quotation, approval and ultimate product delivery are properly managed seamlessly. Liaise with internal suppliers e.g. datacentres and networks to ensure they are able to forecast and deliver capacity based upon our requirements. To participate in storage projects or projects with a storage element ensuring appropriate technical and fiscal processes are followed, with an emphasis on delivery. Work closely with the storage regional manager(s) & storage team, attend regional staff meetings, provide regular & ad hoc reporting for regional manager / business representatives.Key Targets & Objectives of Role: Maintaining an overall storage service catalogue to enable business customers to understand the relative costs and functions associated with each service tier. Producing the monthly picture of demand versus available capacity forecast with associated purchase plans to ensure just in time purchases to meet capacity demand. Maintain an inventory of the storage estate – currently several petabytes in size, and globally dispersed. Building relationships/trust with key representatives in the UBS business entities and ITI Keep current with storage technology and related developments to take informed decisions when required Pursue/implement cost-saving initiatives as they become apparent / are discovered Liaise with vendors to ensure the timely supply of pricing information and quotations, through to ordering and delivery of equipment. Ensure timely communication with the business areas to ensure they are aware of the status of capacity and specific dedicated device delivery. Additional InformationPreferred Qualifications: Four year degree preferrably in a science subject ITIL certification/qualification Occasional travel to international level will be required Operational experience in a large multi-national organisation The capability to assimilate business requirements and apply them to the storage service, understanding the criticality and priority of the requirement and together with other global capacity managers and regional storage managers compile the appropriate business case to progress purchase. Project management experience will be required, as the storage capacity planning activities require structure, planning, co-ordination and prioritisation of resources to achieve the deployments as required in a demanding and sometimes reactive business where the responsiveness of IT infrastructure is critical to the business. Fiscal/budgetary control experience will be required, as the capital expenditures for the storage service need to be tightly controlled, measured and planned to produce a stable projection which can be incorporated into the cashflow forecast The definition/agreement/maintenance/monitoring of KPIs and SLAs is required to ensure that the Storage service continues to operate within the requirements defined by the Bank Manipulation of large amounts of forecast data and combination with utilisation reports (from storage devices), ideally driving towards an automated process to deploy new storage devices in a utility model SAN storage devices and associated functions(Cisco, McData, EMC – DMX,Clariion,Centera, HDS) NAS storage devices and associated IP networks(NetApps) Backup technologies(Quantum, STK, EMC VTL, Netbackup) Spreadsheet and database creation/manipulation to produce reports, projections, purchasing decisions Presentation skills Crisis management skills/experience a definitive advantage, as in the event of a disaster scenario, the co-ordination of DR plan execution is a key aspect of the Bank’s financial and reputational recoveryWe can offer you an exciting, fast-paced working environment, a culture of mutual respect and teamwork and the opportunity to play a vital role in our growth.If you are attracted to joining an organization where every individual’s contribution counts and where your talent will impact on our future, please apply for this position. REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications: Four year degree (BA/BS) or international equivalent
Minimum 2 years Project Management experience
Minimum 2 years Fiscal/Budgetary Control experience
