Director of Engineering-Manufacturing and Design

Directs the development and management of the engineering/process techs and operational systems including process development, process improvement, project management and packaging services. Provides a source of support between the manufacturing department and external customers. Oversees the qualifications of production and process development of molds used in plastic injection molding, contract manufacturing and off shore manufacturing services.

1. Develops annual budgets, manages costs and is accountable and responsible for performance to plan, reporting on significant variances to plan.

2. Supervises and leads staff in execution of operational plans and projects to assure goals are met.

3. Manages and monitors performance of direct reports, identifying areas of improvement or career development and taking steps to achieve desires results.

4. Oversees the engineering development of new products and processes for the introduction to manufacturing, the technical support function for the manufacturing floor and the mold and product design area, assuring goals and criteria are being met.

5. Ensures the successful transistion and development of new products from R&D into the manufacturing process to meet market cost and quality system requirements.

6. Oversees process phase of mold construction, manufacture, debug and repair of all tooling whether proprietary or external customers.

7. Oversees master project schedule of company engineering, Contract Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing and cost improvement projects.

8. Responsible for maintaining quality working relationships with peers and subordinates by investing time in the working relationships.

9. Develops and implements a plan for establishment of process standards for all injection molds and molding presses, assembly packaging and sterilization.

10. Develops and manages department plan from the strategic business plan that supports the goals of the company.

11. Supports marketing and sales in developing new accounts and maintaining continuity of service to existing customers.

12. Primary position proponent to ensure the investigation of up-to-date technology used in the plastic and medical device recommending changes in production techniques, equipment and methods.

13. Plans and schedules levels of support according to product release schedules.

14. Primary responsibility for implementation and improvement of production processes, secondary operations and equipment improvements.

15. Directly supervises 5-10 employees including degreed engineers. Carries out supervisory responsibilites in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REQUIREMENTS


Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering Product Engineering. Minimum of 5 years management experience and 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in plastic manufacturing environment

1. Knowledge of budget, manpower and operational efficiencies planning.

2. Advanced knowledge of on-line and off-line statistical process control methodology.

3. Advanced knowledge of project management techniques.

4. Strong organizational, coaching and leadership skills.

5. Ability to properly set priorities and handle multiple tasks in parallel and possess a sense of urgency as it pertains to achieving results.

6. People oriented management style, with a tactfully aggressive and pro-active approach.

7. Knowledge of plastic injection mold design, fabrication methods, operation and operating capabilities.

8. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and the general public.

9. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concept such as probability and statistical inference and fundamental of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
